Course Sequence for Pre-Med Biology Majors

The medical college admissions test (MCAT) will be greatly expanded in 2015.  Consequently, students taking the MCAT in 2015 or later should complete all of the following courses first:

  • Biol 1107K & 1108K, Principles of Biology I & II
  • Chem 1211 & 1212, Principles of Chemistry I & II
  • Chem 3441 & 3442, Organic Chemistry I & II (it’s probably fine to take the MCAT without completing Organic Chemistry II but don’t take it without beginning that course)
  • Phys 1111 & 1112 or 2211 & 2212 Principles of or Introductory Physics I & II
  • Biol 3220K Genetics
  • Biol 3240K Cell Biology
  • Biol 4350K Animal Physiology
  • Biol 4390K General Microbiology
  • Psyc 1101 & 1102
  • Soci 1101
  • A course that provides in-depth coverage of biological molecules, enzyme kinetics, and biochemical pathways

There is no single ideal sequence of courses for a premedical biology major.  The following is a general guide meant to ensure that the right courses are taken prior to the MCAT.  Add Core Curriculum courses and physical education to achieve full time status.  Please consult with your advisor when choosing courses.
