1. General Information

What is a CEU?

The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a recognized method for recording completion of courses meeting the requirement for teacher certification renewal. UNG Continuing Education provides CEUs as approved by the Georgia Department of Education.

How do I receive CEUs?

- One CEU represents 10 contact hours of instruction. - You must attend 100% of the course to receive CEU credit and completion certificate.

- CEUs are reported to you within 30 days of the course end date. You will receive a course completion form for your records and/or for your employer.

*Attention Georgia Teachers: As of January 1, 2016, the CEU requirement is for teachers that need CEU credits to renew teaching certifications that expired prior to 2011. If you are unsure of your certification requirements, please contact the Georgia PSC:

Note: The first course completion form for each course is free; each additional form requested is $15 per course.

2. Select a CEU-approved Class

We offer online courses this semester.

These courses have been pre-approved for PLU credit by the Georgia Department of Education. The number of PLUs that have been approved are listed with each course.

3. Complete a Prior Approval Form

Obtain a Prior Approval Form from the staff development coordinator for your school system, UNG Continuing Education, or your class instructor.

You must complete a Prior Approval Form for each class (instructor-led and on-line) for which you are seeking credit.
Note: If you are not currently employed in a school system, you may sign the prior approval form. When you are ready to renew your teaching certificate, attach your forms to your renewal application.

We can accept the form utilized by your school system or the University of North Georgia Continuing Education Prior Approval Form.

Instructor-Led Classes:
To receive CEU credit you MUST attend 100% of the class hours.
If you have unavoidable, excused absences, CEU credit may still be awarded if you work with the instructor to make up material missed and complete the mastery verification requirements to the instructor's satisfaction. It is your responsibility to let your instructor know that you will be absent and to make arrangements for make-up work. This must be completed promptly.

Online Classes:
For online courses, course completion will be verified by UNG Continuing Education through the Ed2go administrative website. Quizzes must be completed for each of the on-line chapter lessons.
In addition:
- You must score at least 80% on the final exam,
- Print a Certificate of Completion when you finish your class, and
- Complete a Student Affidavit ensuring that you have successfully completed the test on the course objectives and all instructional exercises required for this course.
