Information Technology at the University of North Georgia provides all students, faculty and staff the ability to enter issues and requests for technology-related issues through the Self Service Portal.

Knowledge Base

Through the Self Service Portal, all students, faculty and staff have access to an extensive Knowledge Base that contains answers to the most frequently asked questions. To access the Knowledge Base, simply visit the Self Service Portal and select Knowledge Base.

Computer Purchasing

Should I Buy a Windows or Macintosh Computer?

The University of North Georgia fully supports both Windows and Macintosh computers on campus. Any computers that work in a home environment will work properly at the University of North Georgia. Some very specific software on campus is specific to Windows machines, however, Macintosh computers may be configured with BootCamp to allow compatibility with this software. Learn more about BootCampnew window.

At this time, only Windows and Macintosh computers are supported for the use of Microsoft Office products. Computers such as Google Chromebooks currently do not have access to install Microsoft Office products, however, you may use the Virtual Labs in order to access Microsoft Office products from any computer with an Internet browser. Should I Buy Microsoft Office?

No, with your Student Technology Fee, each student is eligible for up to 5 licenses for personal computers. For information on installing Microsoft Office products, please visit our Software Portalnew window or one of the Service Desk locations.

Should I Buy Antivirus Software?

It is suggested that all students have antivirus software installed on their personal computers. Included with your Student Technology Fee is a license to an industry leading antivirus solution, ESET NOD32. Learn more about ESET NOD32 Antivirusnew window. Important Note: If you plan on living in the Residence Halls, it is required for Windows computers to be running an up-to-date antivirus software.

Are There Student Discounts Available?

Many computer manufacturers offer discounts to students through an Educational Store. Listed below are manufacturers that offer discounts.

Minimum Specification Recommendations

The minimum specifications are the requirements to run the latest Microsoft Office products.

Student Printing

Print Allocation Funds

At the beginning of each semester all enrolled students are given a print allocation amount of $10, this will allow printing of up to 500 pages ($0.02 per page). This amount does not carry over each semester and any unused amount from this allocation will be deducted from your account at the end of each semester.

Duplex printing (2 sided copies) will count as 2 pages, therefore students are charged $0.04 for 2 sided print jobs.

Adding Funds to Your Print Account

Beyond the initial allocation of $10 all students are able to add funds to their print account via the Card Services website. Funds added this way do carry over each semester, these additional funds you add yourself are not removed at the end of each semester like the initial print allocation amount.

Missing Print Account Funds

If your University of North Georgia I.D. card has not been issued or was recently re-issued, it is possible that your account will not be credited the appropriate funds at the start of the semester. In this case, please contact the I.T. Service Desk for the funds to be manually added to your account.

Requesting a Refund

Students that need to request a refund of print jobs (bad copy, low toner, jammed pages) will need fill out a submit an Account Refunds Formnew window and turn the form into the I.T. Service Desk.
