All campuses remain closed Wednesday

The University of North Georgia closed its campuses early on Tuesday, due to inclement weather conditions and campuses will remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 29. Remember, the first and official sources of notifications are the ConnectEd Alert System and the UNG website.

UNG Athletics has rescheduled the home basketball games from Jan. 29 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. to Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:30 p.m. (women's) and 7:30 p.m. (men's). The Strategic Planning Committee's town hall meeting that had been scheduled for Jan. 29 on the Dahlonega Campus has been rescheduled for Feb. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Hoag Auditorium.

Campus activities on the Dahlonega campus may continue.  Please check with your organization for details.  The Student Center, Recreation Center, and Dining Hall will operate under normal hours. The Intramural Games have been postponed.

The Dahlonega Library's third session of the America's Music (Swing Jazz) film series on Wednesday, Jan. 29 has been canceled. The Gainesville Theatre Alliance's back-stage tour of "Chicago," originally planned for Tuesday, was canceled. Other events scheduled for Jan. 29 also likely are canceled or postponed.

Please note that in the event of inclement weather that causes a campus closure or delayed opening, an announcement will be distributed first through the university’s Emergency Notification System. In the event of emergencies, closures or delayed openings, this system will provide important information regarding university operations or emergency actions.

If you need to update your contact information for the Emergency Notification System, please use the Banner Information System, contact Christy Sweeley in the Office of Public Safety, or email for assistance.

Inclement weather notifications are likely to be segmented by campus location, as weather conditions may vary widely in the university’s four-campus area. Students will receive alerts for only the campus(es) where they are taking classes. Faculty and staff should receive all notifications, but information may be specific to certain campuses.

Should a campus be closed or delay opening due to weather conditions, an announcement will be published by 6 a.m. Essential personnel (identified in advance by their supervisors) would need to report as soon as they are able to safely do so. Non-essential personnel and students who do not reside on campus should refrain from coming to campus to avoid placing unnecessary demand on public safety and plant operations staff.

When campuses return to normal operations, students, staff and faculty should always use their best judgment about traveling depending upon road conditions in their area.

In addition to the Emergency Notification System, the university will provide information and updates at The Office of University Relations will also disseminate information through local media outlets.
