The University of North Georgia (UNG) held its third annual Spelling Bee on March 5 to benefit the Lumpkin County Literacy Coalition, a non-profit organization that provides free reading programs for children and adults. The event raised more than $525 in donations.
Hosted by the Honors Program, the Spelling Bee involved 10 teams, eight of which were from UNG.
Cheyenne Franklin, Emily Garmon and Amy Rogers from the Sigma Tau Delta honor society at UNG took first place, beating the runners-up from the Society of Physic Students.
Many local sponsors including the UNG Bookstore provided prizes for the winners.
