Former UNG basketball player signs contract overseas

Former University of North Georgia (UNG) basketball player Ishmael Hollis has signed a contract overseas with S.C. Lusitania EXPERT to continue his professional basketball career in Portugal.

S.C. Lusitania EXPERT is based in Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, Portugal, and competes as a member of the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol — the highest level of basketball in Portugal.

Averaging 19.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, Hollis was the Peach Belt’s second leading scorer and fourth leading rebounder as a senior at UNG. He represented UNG in the Reese's NCAA Division II College All-Star game in 2014 after being named a 1st team Peach Belt Conference All-Conference selection as a senior. He also was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Division II All-District first team, posted 10 double-doubles in 2013-14 and earned a spot on the Daktronics All-Region team as a second team selection.

This summer, Hollis played for the South Metro Pirates in the Australia State League where he averaged 29.5 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per contest. The Gainesville native also played professionally in the United Kingdom. Hollis is a graduate of Flowery Branch High School.
