The Gainesville Theater Alliance (GTA) will present Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" Nov. 8-19 in Brenau University's Hosch Theatre. This production offers a classic tale of magic and romance featuring Belle, a young woman in provincial France, and the Beast, a cursed prince doomed to eternity as a monster unless he can learn to love and be loved.
GTA is a 37-year-old, nationally-acclaimed collaboration between the University of North Georgia (UNG), Brenau University, and theater professionals to engage and entertain the Northeast Georgia community. GTA has won national and state awards for professional and artistic merit, and saw an attendance of nearly 26,000 patrons last season.
"The majority of GTA patrons stem from the 12 surrounding northeast Georgia counties, but the continuous flow of students attending the theater is critical to developing the present and future generations of audiences," said GTA Artistic and Managing Director Jim Hammond. "To promote this growth, students attending both UNG and Brenau University have the privilege of free admission for certain showings of each production."
The production has more than 260 UNG and Brenau theatre majors working under the guidance of directors, designers, stage managers, choreographers, and actors to delight patrons who come with high expectations, as they do for all five plays and musicals of the 2016-2017 season.
GTA hosts a series of events before and during the run of "Beauty and the Beast," including a free stage tour – a one-hour session with the director and designers at the theatre on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
Other events include:
- Preview Performance: Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. (with tickets at $10)
