Gifted Endorsement

The Gifted endorsement program at the University of North Georgia is a fully online program.

   

What is the Gifted Endorsement?

UNG offers the Gifted In-field Endorsement, approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC Rule 505-2-.12) which states:  "An individual with the Gifted In-Field Endorsement is in-field to provide direct instruction to gifted students only in the grade levels and fields of the base certificate(s). Direct instruction may be provided in resource classes, advanced content classes and/or cluster group classes."

UNG's approach to the Gifted Endorsement?

UNG’s Gifted Endorsement Program is a four course sequence offered completely online  Completely redesigned in the Fall of 2013, the UNG Gifted Endorsement courses are highly engaging and utilize state of the art learning platforms and instructional strategies.  The program focuses on training teachers of the gifted as well as helping on-level teachers differentiate for their academically advanced students.  Program is created and delivered by the faculty and staff of the UNG College of Education.

Required Course Sequence

Students may begin the Gifted Endorsement program in January or June.  All courses must be taken in order.

If beginning endorsement in January:

  1. Spring -  EDGE 6001 - Characteristics of the Gifted
  2. Summer - EDGE 6002 - Curriculum for the Gifted
  3. Fall - EDGE 6003 - Methods & Materials of the Gifted
  4. Spring - EDGE 6004 - Assessment of the Gifted

If beginning endorsement in June:

  1. Summer - EDGE 6001 - Characteristics of the Gifted
  2. Fall - EDGE 6002 - Curriculum of the Gifted
  3. Spring - EDGE 6003 - Methods & Materials of the Gifted
  4. Summer - EDGE 6004 - Assessment of the Gifted

Online Application - for Individual

If you are completing the endorsement for PLU credit, please use the application link below.  If you are or will be a graduate student, you will register through Banner. 

January 2015 - To begin courses in January 2015, complete online application.  Applications must be completed by December 15, 2014 to attend January courses.

How much do courses cost?

Each gifted endorsement course costs $550 and earns 5 PLU's.  Cost of the course does not include the mandatory membership ('Standard Edition') to LiveText, Inc.  You will need to provide us with your LiveText account information (LiveText username).  LiveText subscription is required for all students.

Refund Policy

If you need to withdraw, refunds are given BEFORE the course begins. There are no refunds if you withdraw AFTER the course begins.

How do I add the Gifted Endorsement to my certificate?

You have to apply for it when you have completed the coursework. Grades and your degree (if applicable) have to be posted by the Registrar before anything can be processed.   INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE CERTIFICATION PACKET
