Interested in Arabic, Chinese, Korean, or Russian?  Come to the Summer Accel Language Program.

This highly competitive and low cost summer program is for Georgia high school students who will be juniors or seniors in Fall 2015. Students reside in the most modern and beautiful residence hall on the Dahlonega campus for the duration of the program, and will earn both college and high school academic credit. The program is for students interested in careers where understanding a strategic language and culture is critical:  federal government agencies such as the FBI, CIA, Department of State; non-governmental agencies; international business, and much more. 

Dates:  June 21 through July 30, 2015
Location:  University of North Georgia's Dahlonega Campus
Capacity:  30 students for language program
Please Note:  We may cancel one or more of the languages, depending on interest. Should we cancel, we will refund your application fee.

Admission Criteria:

  • Legal Georgia resident
  • Entering high school junior or senior in Fall 2015 (includes home school students)
  • 3.25 minimum cumulative GPA in required high school curriculum course work
  • SAT minimum 970 combined critical reading and math, with minimum 480 critical reading and minimum 440 math - or - ACT minimum 20 composite with minimum 20 English and minimum 18 math.  Unaccredited home school students must have 1120 SAT or 24 composite ACT.  NOTE:  If you haven't taken the SAT or ACT, we offer the Institutional SAT on the Dahlonega Campus and the Institutional ACT on the Gainesville Campus.  For dates and registration, visit www.ung.edu/testing
  • Language program is not open to native speakers of their desired language

Your Cost:

  • Accel will pay your tuition - you save $1,360 for Language Program
  • UNG will not charge you mandatory fees - you save another $860
  • You pay:
    • $950 for room ($600) and meals ($350) for 40 days
    • $200 Language Institute books (approximate)
    • $30 application fee
  • Note that there is no other federal or state financial aid available.  Please do not submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).


The Summer STEM Institute has been cancelled for Summer 2015.

Language ClassSummer Accel Language Courses

Arabic/Chinese/Korean/Russian 1001 and 1002.  Four academic credits each.  These courses are the first of two elementary language courses designed to develop your skills in speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing as well as familiarize you with aspects of the target culture. These courses combine intensive, interactive, proficiency-based classroom work with co-curricular activities, lab assignments, on-line practice, and individual or group tutoring.

Key Application Dates

  • April 1 :  Preferred application deadline - these applicants will be considered first
  • April 5 :  UNG admissions office will mail decision letters to students who meet the preferred deadline
  • May 1 :  Final application deadline
  • May 1 :  Confirmation deadline for preferred applicants
  • May 5 :  UNG admissions office will mail decision letters to students who meet the May 1st deadline
  • May 15 :  Confirmation deadline for May 1st applicants

How to Apply

    • Step 1 of 4 Steps:  Consult with your high school guidance counselor to ensure this program and course work is appropriate for you.
    • Step 2 of 4 Steps:  Complete our interest form.
  • Step 3 of 4 Steps:  Complete either the UNG online or paper application* for admission.  Skip this step if you are a currently-enrolled at UNG.
  • Step 4 of 4 Steps:  Complete the Accel paper application* located on the GACollege411. Please mail the Accel paper application to:
