Creating an RSS Aggregator Block

Overview

In this exercise you will learn how to create a new RSS aggregator block. A RSS aggregator block pulls in an RSS feed from another web site. The beauty of pulling in an RSS feed is that you do not need to update the listing. It will update whenever the page is republished, which is usually overnight.

There are two parts to pulling in an RSS feed:

  • Creating an external link of the feed.
  • Creating the block to pull in the feed.

Why use an RSS Aggregator?

Want to pull in the latest from another web site? Many sites provide an RSS feed of their news or postings. You can automate pulling in their updates via an aggregator. Updates are reflected when your page republishes each evening.

Instructions

Set up an external link to the RSS feed:

  1. In the left panel, click on the “_links” folder. (All external links go in here. You may add folders to organize your links if you have very many.
