Michael Rowland Photography Exhibition

Artist Statement

I have been a photographer since 1963. I received my first camera then. It was a Kodak Brownie Starflash.  It was a fun camera capable of Color, Black and White – negatives and slides on 127 film. Still have it. I have considered myself as a Professional since around 2010.

My photography takes a look at the world around us.  I am an eclectic photographer. I shoot what I like and enjoy experimenting with new subjects and techniques. I always leave home with my camera bag, never know when that great shot will present itself. I enjoy shooting the old and abandoned, as I like to preserve the past. Our world is changing at an ever-increasing speed. Before long we will have no sign of the past left. Along with the above mentioned, I also enjoy photographing: macro, flowers, food, gardens, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, landmarks, historical sites, memorials and statues.

Artist Bio

Michael Rowland was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At 2 months of age he moved with his Mother back to Jacksonville, Florida were his Father was stationed. For his birthday in 1963 he was given a new Kodak Brownie Starfish. He went broke several times buying film and then getting it developed (you can only do so much mowing lawns for 50 cents). He became a staff photographer in Junior High and High School for the school newspaper and yearbook.
He has quite the experience of many subjects. Michael has been to 56 countries around the world and some of those do not exist any longer. He has always had a camera with him.
