Artist’s Statement
To me a photograph is a memory and a story. Something or someone caught in a moment that I want to remember forever. In the beginning I was interested in pet photography because my pets are my babies but my interests have expanded greatly with my experience. I look around the world today and everything I see now I see with a different eye. I see beauty in simple things and I want to photograph it. Anything from a person sitting on a park bench to a snow on a mountain top tells a story. My camera captures that story for me. I also very much enjoy spending time editing my photos to make them look the very best I can. I love to experiment with vivid colors, black and white and different lighting and capturing as much detail in my photos as possible.
Artist’s Biography
I was born in Terre Haute, IN in 1968. I have always loved taking pictures and was “that person” who was always snapping pictures at all the family events. Back then I used film and would develop my photos and always make an extra copy of the person I photographed to give to them. I have albums and albums of photos I have taken over the years. When facebook came out and cellphone cameras became more and more advanced I would load all my photos onto facebook. One day I went out and bought a Cannon on a whim. I had absolutely no idea how to use the thing. It sat in my room for a very long time. I would always tell my kids that I wanted to take a class just to learn how to use my camera. A year and a half ago those kids signed me up for my first class at UNG and gave it to me as a gift for Mother’s Day. They said they knew I would never do it myself. I think that was the best gift I have ever gotten. I took Photo 1 with every intention of that being my only class. Day one and I was hooked! I have taken every class I can and constantly on Pinterest getting ideas and watching every YouTube video I can to learn more. I don’t know where I will go with my photography but I sure look forward to the journey!
