A

Academic Advising Operations Update

During this time of remote instruction, all advising appointments with professional advisors in campus Advising Centers will continue to take place virtually using Office 365 Teams. 

Students who have not yet made appointments can still book them with professional advisors through adviseme.ung.edu. Your advisor will send you simple instructions for joining the advising meeting through Teams once your appointment is confirmed. 

If you need additional accommodations, please email your advisor through your UNG email account. 

Admissions Operations Update

Admissions staff are working remotely to support prospective students. Please refer all questions to the following email addresses for each office. Staff members will respond to questions in a timely manner:

Admissions Events Canceled

The upcoming Undergraduate Admissions events including campus tours on all UNG campuses scheduled through May 8 have been canceled in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance related to large events and the evolving COVID-19 situation.

We are creating expanded virtual options and are hosting virtual student panels for you and your students to learn more about the University of North Georgia. 

Undergraduate Admissions personnel will still be available via email to answer any questions that you may have regarding the University of North Georgia.

Alumni Relations Operations Update

Appalachian Studies Operations Update

UNG's Appalachian Studies Center and  Historic Vickery House staff are working remotely as our physical offices remain closed. The Dahlonega food pantry is available by appointment only. Please call 706-974-4940 to schedule an appointment.

Cadet Admissions Operations Update

Staff will be working remotely and student support services will continue remotely as our physical office remain closed. Please refer all questions to the following email address, which is being monitored and questions answered in a timely fashion during business hours:

Cadet Admissions Events Canceled

Cadet Admissions has cancelled the following events in accordance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance related to large events and the evolving COVID-19 situation:

  • Cadet Overnight Visit Experience will not have any more visits the rest of the semester. This is the best way to ensure the health of our students and the health of high school students interested in the Corps of Cadets. All families that have already paid for COVE will receive a full refund as soon as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this process.

Campus Rec & Wellness Facilities Closure

Campus Recreation & Wellness staff are working remotely and will respond to emails and phone calls during business hours as our physical offices are closed.

Card Services Operations Update

UNG Card Services staff are working remotely as our physical offices remain closed. At this time we will not be making ID cards for new incoming Summer 2020 or Fall 2020 students. Campus Cash app will no longer work if you are running Blackboard eAccounts as of April 30, 2020. Please download the new Campus Cash App called Transact eAccounts in your app store.

Career Services Operations Update

Career Services staff are working remotely and will respond to emails and phone calls during business hours as our physical offices are closed.

Career Services will be available to meet with students via online appointment through Skype or Outlook. To book an appointment with Career Services, either schedule an appointment online or contact them by phone or email. All Career Services events have been canceled. A Virtual Career Fair is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

Commandant of Cadets/Assistant Commandant Operations Update

Commencement Canceled

UNG’s May 8 and 9, 2020 Undergraduate and Graduate Commencement ceremonies have been canceled.

Students will still earn their degrees this semester, consistent with academic standards. In addition, UNG undergraduate and graduate students will have the option to return to campus on August 1 to walk in the summer commencement ceremonies.

Dining Services Closures & Adjusted Hours

Effective until further notice.

Only the following take-out dining options are available:

  • Dahlonega Dining Hall - 
    • Breakfast: Bags are available for pick up for the following day.
    • Lunch: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
    • Dinner: 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Dahlonega Starbucks is scheduled to reopen on May 26, 2020 from 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for the summer. 

These hours are subject to change. 

All other dining options on all campuses are closed.

Financial Aid Operations Update

Staff will be working remotely and student support services will continue remotely as our physical offices remain closed. Please refer all financial aid questions to finaid@ung.edu or use our live chat option via AskNigel when available. These are being monitored and questions will be answered in a timely fashion.

Although our physical offices are closed, financial aid has online tools to help. Visit the Financial Aid Help Video Library for helpful videos on a variety of topics. 

Food Pantry Operations Updates

Blue Ridge Food Pantry - Open for pick up of non-perishable food items on Mondays and Thursdays.  Email Sandy Ott for Monday pick up and Anna Speessen for Thursday up. 

Cumming Food Pantry - UNG community can send an email for an appointment to coordinate the best service for them. Students also have a second option to schedule appointments and should indicate their interest in Food Pantry services.

Dahlonega Food Pantry  -  Available by appointment only. Please call 706-974-4940.

Gainesville Food Pantry - Open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for curbside pick up only. Please complete the Curbside Intake Form. Please submit orders at least one hour prior to your desired pick up time. For more information, contact dominique.allen@ung.edu or carly.redding@ung.edu

Oconee Food Pantry - Students, faculty, and staff who need to access the Oconee Food Pantry should text a message to 678-780-9509 and we will reach out to them to arrange a time to meet.

Grants and Contracts Administration Operations Update

The Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) office will remain in operation and continue to serve the UNG community without interruption. Staff are currently working remotely, though are available in-person as needed. 

If you have any questions or concerns regarding forthcoming or ongoing work with GCA and aren't sure who to contact, please email grants@ung.edu and our staff will respond as quickly as possible. 

Pre-Award staff are available via email and Skype chat, call, and video (video calls are by appointment). Please contact Post-Award staff and GCA Administration via email. GCA staff will make other arrangements as needed for communicating with the UNG community and any external entities. 

Principal Investigators (PIs) with current grants should forward any communications from sponsors to lourdes.bastas@ung.edu.

IT Helpdesk & Service Desk Adjusted Hours

UNG's Information Technology Service Desk support is still available, with staff working remotely during normal business hours.

The helpdesk walk-in locations are open Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be closed on Friday until further notice.
The Cumming Campus is currently closed and has no walk-in hours.

Library Operations Updates

Your Library, Online

Library staff are working remotely as our physical locations (except the Dahlonega library) remain closed. Remote services continue during the following hours:

  • Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

*Please check the library website for the latest updates in service hours.

All contact methods (chat, email, voicemail, and webforms) are monitored during these hours and responded to as quickly as possible. The Dahlonega library is open to only UNG affiliates from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday.

Reference and Informational Questions - Please use chat or email  so that we may route your question to the appropriate person. 

Research Consultations - Requests for consultations are being delivered remotely (e.g. Teams, Skype, Blackboard Collaborate.) Please allow 48 business hours advance notice from the time of your request in order to allow for adequate preparation.

Library Instruction - Sessions are being delivered remotely (e.g. Teams, Skype, Blackboard Collaborate) or instructors may request instructional materials for inclusion in D2L.  Any instruction that has not already been scheduled, should be requested at least two weeks in advance to allow for adequate preparation. 

Electronic Resources are available 24/7. For assistance use chat or email on the Libraries website.

Physical Items are available for checkout in the Dahlonega Library during open hours. Due dates for all materials have been extended and items (books, technology) should not be returned until facilities reopen. For questions please use email.

Gil Express is currently unavailable. Items currently checked out should be held until facilities reopen.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is currently for borrowing of digital items only. Items currently checked out should be held until facilities reopen.

Professional & Continuing Education In-person Classes Canceled

Professional and Continuing Education in-person classes will be canceled at all UNG locations through April 30, based on state guidance to all University System of Georgia institutions related to the coronavirus situation. Updates for individual courses will be sent via email to registered participants. We are working to reschedule most courses as soon as possible. However, online classes are still available. Summer Language Institutes Operations Update

Based on current public health guidance, UNG has reduced operations and on-campus staffing. The Summer Language Institutes delivery will be via a 100% online format.

Student Health Services Operations

UNG Student Health Centers in Dahlonega and Gainesville will be on call for students. Students may use the Student Health Centers in Dahlonega or Gainesville, rather than an urgent care, primary care, or emergency facility, but they should call ahead

Students should contact Student Health Services by email or phone before going to the Health Center, particularly if they have potential COVID-19 symptoms.

Student Money Management Center Operations Update

Staff are working remotely and will respond to emails and phone calls during business hours as our physical offices remain closed.

Student Money Management Center personnel will be available to meet with students via online appointment through Skype or Microsoft Teams. To book an appointment with SMMC staff, either schedule an appointment online (login required) or contact us by phone or email.

Supplemental Instruction Operations Update

Supplemental Instruction at UNG is committed to serving our students during the transition to online instruction for the remainder of Spring 2020. Sessions will remain consistent, collaborative, and engaging through the use of Blackboard Collaborate. Facilitators will be in contact with their individual professors and classes regarding their sessions. Find the full list of sessions on the Services by Course page.

Testing Centers Operations Update

The UNG Testing Centers will be closed beginning Wednesday, April 8 through Friday, May 29. A reopening date will be updated here when it is announced. Remote testing sessions for Legislative and Accuplacer, only, began Thursday, April 16. For questions regarding registration, please email your nearest testing center location:

Tutoring Services Operations Update

Free online tutoring through Tutoring Services is available for enrolled UNG students. Tutoring sessions are conducted by UNG professional and peer tutors. Our physical offices remain closed as staff work remotely.

Writing tutoring is available through WCOnline; math, physics, chemistry, accounting, and other subjects are tutored through Microsoft Teams. See Tutoring Services for more details.
