Department of Defense Cyber Scholarship Program

The Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Scholarship Program (CySP) is a scholarship-for-service program that provides full tuition, fees and books plus a stipend for $25,000 for living expenses to juniors and seniors in a cyber-related degree program ($30,000 for Master’s in a cyber degree or concentration) at a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). UNG is designated as a CAE-CDE by the NSA and Department of Homeland Security since 2016.

Am I Eligible?

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • A citizen of the U.S. enrolled with a declared major, minor, or concentration in a cyber-related degree program (E.g., major in computer science, information systems, strategic studies with a cyber concentration, cybersecurity minor with major in business, mathematics, physics, engineering, environmental spatial analysis, or criminal justice.)
  • Successfully have completed at least 60-credit-hours before fall 2020 with a minimum 3.2 GPA as an undergraduate, or be enrolled in a Master’s program with a minimum 3.5 GPA and plan to complete the summer graduate certificate in cybersecurity.
  • Be able to obtain security clearance (background investigation required) and agree to work for the DoD as a civilian employee for one calendar year for each year of scholarship assistance upon graduation (active duty military can opt to extend their military service obligation by one year).

How Do I Apply?

  1. If you are considering applying, inform the Center for Cyber Operations by emailing Dr. Payne so the center can follow up with you accordingly
  2. Make sure your major, minor or concentration is correctly recorded in Banner 
    • Student Menu, bottom link “Internal Transfer - Change Degree, Major/Minor
  3. Email Ms. Bruner or deliver to Newton Oakes office 123 with the following no later than Friday, February 7, 2020:
    1. A current resume
    2. A separate sheet highlighting recognitions, honors, awards, conferences or competitions (such as the NSA Codebreaker Challenge, National Cyber League, etc.)
    3. Two letters of recommendations
    4. A completed CySP student application
