2020 Virtual Diversity and Inclusion Summit Call for Proposals

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion encourages UNG faculty and staff to develop proposals for the upcoming virtual USG Diversity and Inclusion Summit 2020 breakout sessions. The theme for this year's Summit is Freedom of Expression and Inclusive Campuses: Building Capacity. The deadline to submit proposals is July 24, 2020.

The committee is looking for proposals that correlate with these tracks:
  • Freedom of Expression in the Classroom
  • Freedom of Expression in Co-Curricular Settings
  • Inclusive Campuses in the Classroom
  • Inclusive Campuses in Co-Curricular Settings

Types of Virtual Sessions

Virtual Plenary (55 Minutes)

Plenary are moderated sessions of experts presenting on a common theme, content, or methodological area, designed to give the audience different perspectives. They will be scheduled for 45 minutes and will include a minimum of three presentations with ten minutes for questions and answers. Plenary organizers may also choose to include several shorter oral presentations as long as they keep to 55 minutes in total.

Virtual Topical Workshop (30 Minutes)

Topical workshops must provide an in-depth examination of the topic. Topical workshops will be 30 minutes, including five minutes for questions and answers.

Virtual Poster (20 Minutes)

Poster presentations aim to offer participants an opportunity to present their work in a visual format and offer opportunities for interaction and discussion. Presenters should ensure that important information is readable in an electronic format; the title is short and draws interest; the text is clear and to the point; graphics, color, and fonts are used effectively; and the layout is consistent and clean.

Proposal Requirements

  • Session Title
    • A brief and descriptive explanation of your session. (Word limit – 20)
  • Session Description
    • A 200-word description of your session, including a summary of the topic and of the information, takeaways, benefits, or lessons that you expect conference participants to gain. This is the primary element of your proposal that the reviewers will use to evaluate your session. If your session is accepted, you will be asked to provide a refined 50-word summary for the conference program and marketing materials.
  • Session Presenters
    • The accurate names, titles, departments, campuses and contact information for the people organizing the session, presenting, and facilitating discussions. No one may lead or present in more than two sessions.
  • Conference Track
    • One of four conference tracks that best describes the major content focus of your session and will be used to help conference participants find the content most relevant for them.
  • Topical Tags
    • Up to three topical tags that provide additional information on the topics discussed within your session. Tags will be used by the reviewers in assessing the range of content across the program and will be searchable by attendees in finding sessions most relevant to them. (Examples: Residence Hall Settings, Classroom Management, Student Advocacy, etc.)
  • Target Audience
    • One of three audience “levels” that describes the target audience for your session: early career, mid-career, or universal audience. Audiences will be used by evaluators to help determine the mix of sessions for attendees at the conference and will be used by attendees to find sessions most appropriate for their professional development.
  • Session Format
    • Interactive (Topical Workshop), Lecture (Topical Workshop), Panel (Plenary), Table Top (Poster): The session format should be designed to provide the experience and the takeaways desired for your intended audience. Make clear what kind of interaction and engagement will be provided in your session content. The format will help set expectations for what attendees will experience.
