"Do you know that Portuguese is one of the most important languages in the world? It's a beautiful language that expresses an enterprising and dynamic culture, it's explorers and sailors, and it's multicultural people."

"We are Portuguese Flagship students from the University of Georgia, and this year we're living in Brazil experiencing academic and professional life through Portuguese, the seventh most spoken language in the world."

"I decided to study Portuguese in college because I love to travel, and Brazil is a beautiful, diverse and amazing country, and it's a place I wanted to explore. And it's for that reason that I'm studying Portuguese at the Portuguese Flagship."

"Well, for me, my case is a little bit different. My mom is Brazilian and my father is American, and they always spoke Portuguese at home, but I never learned it as a child. And so, without the help of the Portuguese department, I would have never been able to speak the language that my parents and my family here in Brazil speak. So the Portuguese Flagship Program with the Portuguese department has been like fulfilling a dream for me."

"I chose Portuguese because I knew knowing Portuguese would help find a job after college."

"Well, it all started with the sport I train in, which is Brazilian Jui Jitsu. and my trainer who had just gotten into the United States from Brazil ah, he only knew how to speak Brazilian Portuguese, and his English was very, very poor. So, he would mostly speak Portuguese, and I told him my father were Brazilian, could understand him, and I felt a little but left out. So, I decided to pursue another language. So, I communicated with my professor and, through this journey, I've felt like not only that I have realized my goals learning how to communicate with my professors, but also broadened my horizons in every aspect of my life."

"Now, it is in college, that you can learn a language in depth, and gain a multi-national perspective for your career."

"So what are you waiting for? Come and learn Portuguese this summer? The FSLA is a three-week residential program at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega for students interested in a language immersion experience. You'll learn the fundamentals of Portuguese and be exposed to the rich culture of Brazil, from highly qualified teachers. The program is designed for rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and high school graduates."
