Fun Outside the Classroom
To promote a sense of community and extend their learning experience, Honors students engage in many fun activities outside of the classroom. In recent years, students have attended plays at the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta, viewed art exhibits at the High Museum, heard the Atlanta Symphony, toured the Capitol building, gone caving, zip lining and whitewater rafting, and attended professional sporting events.
Each year, UNG provides funding for students to present their academic work at regional academic conferences. In February 2012, we were the host school for the Georgia Collegiate Honors Council (GCHC) conference. We also took a group to the 2013 GCHC conference in Statesboro, the 2014 GCHC conference in Macon, and the 2014 SRHC conference in Savannah. Students report that the experience of presenting at a conference can, of course, be a little intimidating, but the sense of accomplishment that follows is empowering.
