Q. What is SkillSoft?
A. SkillSoft is UNG’s eLearning program available to faculty and staff and includes a comprehensive catalog of over 3,000 free non-credit, on-line professional development courses, simulations and reference materials that can be accessed anytime through an internet connection. These courses offer a wide variety of training and professional learning and development opportunities which are designed to enhance critical business and computer software skills and thus increasing professional knowledge and value to the University. SkillSoft also offers over 29,000 books on subjects related to business, desktop applications and IT professional subjects.
Q. How long are the courses?
A. Courses range from fifteen minutes to four hours. The actual time needed to complete a course will vary by user. However, the estimated duration for each course is available by viewing the course description once you are logged into SkillSoft.
Q. Can I take courses at work?
A. Yes, UNG encourages you to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance your personal and professional skills and knowledge at work. Discuss your development goals with your manager and determine the most appropriate time for you to take courses.
Q. How do I access SkillSoft Training?
A. You can conveniently access SkillSoft with a single sign-on approach using Internet Explorer on any computer that offers internet access.
Path to accessing SkillSoft
From any computer with internet access...
- Go to the UNG Human Resources website
- Click on the Training/Staff Development tab
- Click on SkillSoft e-Learning
- Click on the SkillSoft Log-in at the bottom of the page
- Once you reach the Log-in page, simply enter in your network username and password – this will take you directly to the UNG – SkillSoft homepage
Q. How do I find the courses in SkillSoft?
A. Once you are logged into the UNG SkillSoft Homepage, you can find courses by entering in key words, course title or the course number in the “Search for” field at the top of the screen. You can limit or expand your search by changing the “Category” field also located at the top of the screen. Once you submit the search criteria, the matching selections will appear below. Just click on the link to see more detailed information related to that course.
Q. What are Job Aids?
A. Job Aids are handy course highlights that can be printed out as a reference to be used while you are taking the course or whenever you need support of your new skill or when you need a quick refresher.
Q. What are Skill Briefs?
A. Skill Briefs provide a summary of the key points covered in a course. They are a great resource of “just in time” learning or as a refresher of the course objectives.
Q. How do I bookmark my place?
A. If you need to leave a course before completion, use the “Exit” button to close the SkillSoft course player – this “bookmarks” your place in the course. When you return to that course, you are given the option to return to where you left off in the previous session. If you leave a course to visit the Course Menu, you will find a “Return to Bookmark” button in the lower right corner. Click on this button to return to your last place in the course.
Q. Can I print a certificate of completion?
A. Yes, follow these steps:
- Log into the SkillSoft training portal.
- Click on the “My Progress” tab on the upper left.
- Look for the course you took under the “Completed” tab.
- To the right of the course title you will see an icon that looks like. (describe and find a better image, ask company?)
- Click on this icon to generate a PDF of your certificate of completion.
- Print the PDF to your local printer.
