Special Collections & Archives
The Special Collections and Archives serve as the institutional memory of the university and its predecessors, Gainesville State College, and North Georgia College and State University. In addition, the Special Collections and Archives seeks to collect, arrange, preserve and make accessible collections related to the history of Appalachia, Northeast Georgia and the communities surrounding the university's five campuses.
The UNG Libraries also host two digital initiatives. The Nighthawks Open Institutional Repository (NOIR) is a central exchange for scholarship and creative work deposited by the students, faculty and staff of the university with the goal of expanding the visibility of the university to the regional and global community. The Compendium of Renaissance Drama (CORD), a database created by a UNG faculty member, offers extensive in-depth coverage of English drama from 1485-1642 in text, image, and interactive formats.
