GTA to warm hearts in February with a classic love story

She Loves Me

During February, the Gainesville Theatre Alliance will present "She Loves Me," a classic love story set in a 1930s European perfume shop, in performances at the Hosch Theatre in Gainesville.

Georg and Amalia are two feuding clerks who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals, not suspecting that their respective correspondents are each other. Follow the fiery couple as they discover true love throughout this nostalgic story, "She Loves me," which performs Feb. 12-23 at Brenau University's Hosch Theatre, located at 429 Academy St. in Gainesville.

Join Georg and Amalia in the Gainesville Theatre Alliance's magical portrayal of this classic, which has been beloved on screen as the movies "The Shop Around the Corner," "In the Good Old Summertime," and "You've Got Mail."  Patrons can explore this honest and romantic show, set in 1930s Budapest, being charmed by endearing comedy and Old World elegance seen in the inspired set and costume design.

"She Loves Me" is directed by Jim Hammond, the artistic and managing director of the Gainesville Theatre Alliance. Hammond graduated from Brenau College and received his master of fine arts degree from University of Louisville. One of the first graduates of the collaboration of Gainesville State College, now University of North Georgia, and Brenau University, he is now a professor of acting, audition technique, theatre management and acting for film.

The Gainesville Theatre Alliance is a nationally acclaimed collaboration between the University of North Georgia, Brenau University, theatre professionals and the community.

A free stage tour offering a peek behind the scenes is set for 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the Hosch Theatre. The designers will talk about set, costume, and light design. A catered opening night reception will follow the 7:30 performance on Feb. 12.

Tickets are $16-18 for adults, $14-16 for seniors or $10-12 for students, depending on seat location.  Select your own seats online at or by calling the Box Office at 678.717.3624, Monday - Friday from 10am to 4pm.  MasterCard, Visa and Discover are accepted.
