Some 80 organizations have registered to attend the University of North Georgia Career and Graduate School Fair scheduled for March 7, providing an excellent opportunity for students and alumni looking to network with recruiters and learn about career options.
The organizations registered include federal and state agencies, non-profits, summer camps, graduate schools, information technology companies, and many other businesses. The Career Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Recreation Center on UNG's Dahlonega campus.
"In this day of electronic recruiting, it is important that students take every opportunity to distinguish themselves from the crowd by this kind of in-person interaction," said Dora Ditchfield, director of Career Services. "Often students think you must be a senior to attend these events, but there are also employers seeking part-time summer help or interns, and graduate schools are interested in speaking to juniors and underclassmen as well."
Ditchfield also said job-seekers should be willing to consider all employers, not just those whose name they recognize.
"There are a tremendous number of excellent companies and organizations whose names are not household words, so students should consider all of them," Ditchfield said.
There is also a preparatory workshop and résumé review scheduled to help students prepare for the Career Fair. The Career Fair Basics Workshop will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 28 in room 332 of the Stewart Building. The résumé review will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 5 in room 333 of the Stewart Building. Résumé examples can be found at www.ung.edu/careers under the "Tips by Topic" heading of the "North Georgia" tab.
To access a list of participants thus far, visit www.collegecentral.com/northgeorgiafair and open the "Job Seeker" section. A list of all attendees will be available, and visitors can create lists by job type or major. Visitors can also visit organization websites to view job titles and other information. The number of participants will continue to rise while registration remains open, so visitors are encouraged to check back often.
Professional attire is required during the Career Fair, and résumés are strongly encouraged. The event is open only to UNG students and alumni.
