A member of the University of North Georgia faculty has been invited to give a guest lecture at Spelman College in Atlanta. Dr. Jürgen E. Grandt, assistant professor of English, will present his lecture "Bebop… in Bayreuth: the Reception and Practice of African-American Studies in Europe" on April 24 in the Spelman College Museum of Fine Arts. The lecture is a presentation of Spelman College’s Department of English.
Dr. Grandt is a prolific scholar of English and African-American studies; he has taught both subjects in the United States, Germany, and Switzerland. He has published many scholarly works including two books: "Kinds of Blue: The Jazz Aesthetic in African-American Narrative" and "Shaping Words to Fit the Soul: The Southern Ritual Grounds of Afro-Modernism."
