Two sociology classes on the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus recently donated nearly 500 stuffed animals to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The toys are to be used by deputies to give to children who may be traumatized during emergency situations.
The donations came through collaboration between the Hall County Sheriff Citizens’ Academy alumni and two classes taught by Dr. George Danns, professor of sociology. Mr. Luis Santos-Rivas, president of the alumni, and Captain Chris Matthews of the sheriff’s office collected the donations on April 11. Matthews thanked the students on behalf of Sheriff Gerald Couch and invited them to apply to the eight-week Sheriff Citizens’ Academy program offered later this year.
