Mike and Lynn Cottrell Scholarship Fund established at UNG

Mike and Lynn Cottrell, longtime supporters of the university, have established a scholarship fund for business students.

Mike and Lynn Cottrell of Dahlonega have established a scholarship fund within the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia that is designed to assist in recruiting outstanding high school graduates and to support current students.

"We are very grateful to Mike and Lynn Cottrell for their commitment to the College of Business and to our students," said Dr. Bonita Jacobs, university president.

Dr. Donna Mayo, dean of the Mike Cottrell College of Business, said the scholarship committee will review how the funds may be best put to use.

"With the significant investment from Mike and Lynn Cottrell, we will be able to recruit some of the brightest high school students from the area, and recognize and reward some of the students who are currently enrolled in the College of Business," Mayo said.

Mike and Lynn Cottrell are longtime supporters of the university and said they believe in UNG and the education it provides students across the region.

"These new scholarships will provide both current and incoming students opportunities to receive a quality business education, and will cover many of the expenses not covered by the HOPE Scholarship," said Mike Cottrell, owner of Gainesville-based Cottrell Inc. "When we set up the Cottrell Foundation Inc. Fund at the North Georgia Community Foundation, we did so with the intention of being able to make such gifts to organizations that are impacting the lives of so many, like we see happening with the University of North Georgia and the Mike Cottrell College of Business."

The Mike Cottrell College of Business offers business degree programs on each of UNG’s four campuses that range from associate to graduate degrees. The college is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is the hallmark of excellence in business education and has been earned by less than 5 percent of the world's business programs.

With about 15,000 students, UNG is the state’s seventh-largest public university. The regional, multi-campus university offers more than 100 programs of study, including certificates, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and professional doctoral programs. UNG is designated as a University System of Georgia leadership institution and as The Military College of Georgia.
