The Office of Alumni Relations & Annual Giving at the University of North Georgia is currently forming a Young Alumni Board—a group of graduates from the past decade that will help the university foster connections and relationships with young alumni. Sarah Dunlap, alumni relations officer, talks about the prospective mission of the board and how it will help shape the future of UNG's alumni relations.
What is the mission of the Young Alumni Board, and how will it be accomplished?
The mission of the Young Alumni Board is to serve and engage our most recent alumni of the institution through targeted programming and communications and social and service opportunities. This will be accomplished by establishing a board composed of different backgrounds, ages and careers. This group of men and women will use what they know and hear from their peers to help us develop programming and communications suited for our most recent graduates, to help educate young alumni on why they should invest in the university. Programming could include a professional development series, happy hours, and activities for families and young children.
Why is it important that young alumni engage with UNG?
After college, the demand for personal and professional development becomes exceedingly valuable. Through the consolidation of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State College to for the University of North Georgia, we have more than 54,000 alumni. This huge networking base is an opportunity to build relationships for many young alumni. For UNG, private support and alumni participation are vital to the success of the university, and it is in every graduate’s best interest to connect, engage and invest.
How can young alumni apply, and how will board members be selected?
Any graduate of NGCSU, GSC, or UNG of the past 10 years (2003-2013) can apply to be on the Young Alumni Board and serve a two-year term. Selection will be based on the number of applicants and desire for an equal representation board. To apply, alumni can visit the website here and submit their application and résumé by August 5. Alumni are also invited to the first UNG Young Alumni Happy Hour on September 6, 2013.
