The University of North Georgia (UNG) will hold "Family Day" on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, a free annual event for families of current students on all four UNG campuses to visit the Dahlonega Campus and enjoy a variety of university-sponsored activities.
"Family Day is a great opportunity for family members to spend time with their students on campus and to experience some of campus life," said Darcy Hayes, director of the first-year experience program.
Though the event is sponsored by the First-Year Experience program, all UNG students and their families are invited to attend.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Hoag Student Center at Einstein Bros. Bagels, where families check-in and receive a schedule of events. UNG also will collect donations of school supplies and pocket change to help support local public schools. At check-in, each family member will receive a name badge that serves as the ticket for entry to all Family Day events. The name badge also provides each person with a 10 percent discount at the Campus Connection bookstore on Family Day.
First-Year Experience has events planned for family members of all ages, Hayes said.
"The movie 'Frozen' and a giant bouncy house with a slide and ball pit will be sure to entertain the younger family members," she said. "The climbing wall and shooting range will be open as well. We also have a men's soccer and a men's rugby game scheduled on that day."
Students and families have the option to attend the Parent and Family Association Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Dining Hall on the first floor. Membership is not required for entry, but there is a registration cost of $7 per person. There will also be a Cadet Parent Luncheon at noon in the Dining Hall Banquet Room. Registration is required for the lunch; the cost is $12 per person. Registration for both events is available on the First-Year Experience website.
