UNG Debate Team receives 11 awards at tournament

The University of North Georgia (UNG) Debate Team won 11 awards, including second place overall, at the King Classic Debate Tournament held at Morehouse College on October 10-11. The finish was the highest UNG has ever achieved at the King Classic.

C. Thomas Preston Jr., professor of communication, is the team's coach and sponsor of the team's Pi Kappa Delta Chapter for both campuses, and Debate Club Advisor on the Gainesville Campus. The following UNG students were honored at the awards ceremony on Oct. 11:

  • 2nd Place Novice Debate: Brandon Mealer and Marsie-Rose Cohen
  • 5th Place Novice Debate Speaker: Brandon Mealer
  • 6th Place Novice Debate Speaker: Marsie-Rose Cohen
  • 8th Place Novice Debate Speaker: Ana Ramirez
  • 9th Place Novice Debate Speaker: Tristan Raub
  • Semifinalist Varsity Debate Team: Cristian Ramos and Tyler Williams
  • Quarterfinalist Varsity Debate Team: Fernando Gonzalez and Anthony Harden
  • 4th Place Varsity Debate Speaker: Tyler Williams
  • 6th Place Varsity Debate Speaker: Fernando Gonzalez
  • 8th Place Varsity Debate Speaker: Cristian Ramos
