Lynne Berdanier, a lecturer of biology on the University of North Georgia's Gainesville Campus, has published a textbook on advanced nutrition for high-level undergraduates and graduate students.
"Nutrition as a subject is an integration of biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology, internal medicine and organic chemistry. It is a very difficult subject to master, but it gives students an amazing amount of intellectual flexibility," Berdanier said.
Berdanier said that doctoral-level nutrition science programs are offered at most major universities across the U.S. and in Europe. Because nutrition is a science that requires integration of knowledge from many disciplines, she said it is helpful if a textbook is set up to encourage this integration.
"My co-author and I were asked to update the book because there is a tremendous demand," Berdanier said. "In particular, with the continuing evolution of the field of molecular biology and knowledge in the area of vitamins and minerals, it was important to incorporate the latest information."
