On Oct. 20, entrepreneurs throughout the region will come together for the first-ever StartItUp Conference to hear from nationally-recognized entrepreneurs and share business strategies with students, fellow entrepreneurs and business owners.
"Our center wants to help promote creativity and entrepreneurship throughout the region," said Dr. Ruben Boling, director of the Center for the Future of North Georgia, a unit of the Mike Cottrell College of Business at the University of North Georgia (UNG). "The StartItUp Conference is the first event in north Georgia to bring together entrepreneurship students, entrepreneurially-minded community members and businesses in one place to discuss entrepreneurship and business strategy in our region."
During the conference, participants will hear from five entrepreneurship experts:
- Johnny 'Cupcakes' Earle - apparel designer and BusinessWeek's #1 Entrepreneur under 25
- Tom Chernetsky - entrepreneur and chief technology officer for anonymous social app Yik Yak
- Katie Dicke and Marcus Hollinger – marketing communications and social media directors for Christian hip-hop and startup label Reach Records
- Beau Shell - 11-year-old entrepreneur and the youngest Zagat "30 Under 30" honoree ever, owner of the Lil' Ice Cream Dude
In addition, the event will provide networking opportunities during lunch so attendees can share best practices in their respective businesses with other attendees and students.
"We have seen a great deal of interest in the StartItUp Conference from businesses as well as UNG students and area high school entrepreneurship programs," said Dr. Donna Mayo, dean of the Mike Cottrell College of Business at UNG. "This conference is a great opportunity to build a stronger region through knowledge sharing in entrepreneurship across generations of entrepreneurs."
The event will be held on Tuesday, October 20 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center located off exit 13 on GA 400.
Tickets for students are $15, and tickets for general admission are $50. Admission includes lunch. Sponsorship opportunities for this event are available.
The Center for the Future of North Georgia develops and implements programs to inspire growth in the north Georgia region through entrepreneurship and economic and professional development.
