On April 18 and 19, the University of North Georgia (UNG) will recognize faculty and staff for service milestones and honor nearly two dozen retiring employees during the annual Service Awards & Retirement Ceremonies.
Faculty and staff of the Gainesville and Oconee campuses will be honored April 18 at 2 p.m. on the Gainesville Campus in the Robinson Ballroom of the student center. Faculty and staff of the Cumming and Dahlonega campuses will be honored April 19 at 2 p.m. on the Dahlonega Campus in the Dining Hall Banquet Room.
At each ceremony, faculty and staff who have reached five-year milestones in their length of service to the university will be recognized. This includes Sandra Garner, Bonnie Morris and Lisa Watson, all of whom have served for 30 years, and Estelle Balch, who has reached her 35th official year of service.
"I actually started working here 40 years ago, starting part-time in the Counseling Center under a grant," Balch said. "For the next few years, I had the opportunity to fill in for folks who were out on leave, and served in areas such as the math department, language department and several other while the grant was still active. In 1979, I was fortunate to secure a position in the Department of Fine Arts under Bob Owens' leadership. I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up, but I enjoy my job and all that comes with it."
Others to be recognized include 82 individuals for five years of service, 50 individuals for 10 years of service, 25 individuals for 15 years of service, 20 individuals for 20 years of service, 12 individuals for 25 years of service, and 22 faculty and staff who have retired or will retire during the 2015-16 academic year.
