The University of North Georgia (UNG) will host its annual Starlight Celebration and Concert on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the G.W. Bailey Amphitheater on the Gainesville Campus.
For the first time, the event will be held during the university's Welcome Week to celebrate the fall semester with new and returning students and with the Gainesville community. Previously, the event was held in early summer.
"Starlight is a wonderful event for both the university and the community," said Richard Oates, vice president of UNG's Gainesville Campus. "Hundreds of people come to campus, sit on the grass, have a picnic, listen to music, and chat with friends while the kids throw footballs and Frisbees in a great family atmosphere. This year's event will be no different and will feature great music and fun for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community friends."
Gates will open for cars to enter the campus at 4:30 p.m., and will remain open until 8:30 p.m. The concert's music will be performed from 6 p.m. until dark. A fireworks display will kick-off after the music at dark.
The entry fee is $10 per car or $20 per bus, van or larger. UNG students' entrance is free with a valid UNG student parking permit. Tables for six may be reserved for $100, which includes two event parking passes. All proceeds from the event will support UNG students.
Walk-ins, pets, sparklers, political signage, advertisements (without sponsorship), open flames, and grills are not allowed at this event. All UNG campuses are tobacco-free. Outside food and drinks are welcome, and Jack's Applewood Smoked BBQ will be on-site to sell food, drinks and more.
Special parking is available for those who have state-issued accessible parking permits. Guests without permits will need to park in regular event parking and walk to the event site. Seating is not provided, so guests may wish to bring chairs or blankets to enjoy the concert and fireworks.
In the event of inclement weather, the rain date for Starlight is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 10. For details, please visit www.ung.edu/starlight.
