Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST) Orientation for All Students


The Orientation Reservation system is not yet open. You will receive communication in your UNG email when the Orientation Reservation system becomes available.

Welcome to the University of North Georgia! We are Nighthawk Engagement and Student Transitions (NEST) and we are dedicated to making your transition to UNG a success. 

Orientation is your opportunity to learn what it's like to be a UNG student. During orientation you will interact with current Nighthawks, learn about UNG resources, hear from academic advisors, and find ways to get involved on campus.

New Freshmen (NSO) & Transfer Student Orientation (TSO)

UNG will be hosting orientation in a virtual learning environment for freshman and transfer students enrolling spring term. This program change will ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and community during this challenging time.

NSO & TSO Information

Students admitted to UNG for the Spring 2021 semester as a freshmen and transfer students are required to register for and complete a live virtual orientation.

These New Student Orientation (NSO) sessions and the Transfer Student Orientation (TSO) sessions) will occur at a pre-determined date and time using the Zoom video communications application.

The reservation process includes logging into Banner, and (1) completing an Academic Interest Form (2) selecting your virtual orientation date and time and (3) attending a virtual orientation session via Zoom.

Once you make your reservation, you will be charged a $40 orientation fee and you will gain access to pre-orientation modules with helpful information about UNG. 

Cadet Information

All incoming FROGs will have the option to attend either the Saturday, December 12 orientation or the Monday, January 4 orientation. 

  • FROGs are to report on Tuesday, 5 JAN 21 at 1000 hours for FROG in-processing.
  • FROGs participating in the virtual orientation event on Monday, January 4th will be responsible for their own overnight housing if they are already in Dahlonega.
  • Uniform Fittings will be conducted as part of the FROG in-processing. FROGs can reach out to the Military Store to schedule a fitting in advance if they are already in the north Georgia area.

How to Register for NSO & TSO

  1. Login to Banner
  2. Go to the Student tab
  3. Click on the Orientation Reservation link
  4. Click on the Academic Interest form link and complete the form
  5. You will be prompted to choose your orientation date and t-shirt size
  6. Confirm your reservation
  7. You will receive an automated email with your reservation details

Online-Only (OO) & Readmit Student Orientation (RSO)

Readmit and online only students do not attend a live virtual orientation. They complete an orientation course. Please see additional information for orientation information for all other students.

Readmit (RSO) & Online-Only (OO) Student Info

Readmit students and online-only students admitted to UNG for Spring 2021 are required to register for and complete a self-paced online orientation course.

Once this self-paced course is complete, your orientation hold will be lifted.

When you make your reservation, you will be charged a $40 orientation fee and gain access to the online orientation course.

How to Register for RSO or OO Orientation

  1. Login to Banner
  2. Go to the Student tab
  3. Click on the Orientation Reservation link
  4. Choose your t-shirt size
  5. Confirm your reservation
  6. Click on the Online Orientation Course button to begin your orientation course
  7. Once you have completed the course, your orientation hold will be removed

Other Student Information

Dual Enrolled

Students admitted to UNG as part of the Dual Enrollment program should follow the orientation instructions provided by the Dual Enrollment Coordinator.

Non-Degree Seeking, Post-Bac/Second Degree-Seeking, & International Students

Non-degree seeking, post-bac/second degree seeking, and international students admitted to UNG for Spring 2021 are required to complete a self-paced online orientation course. Once this self-paced course is complete, your orientation hold will be lifted.

Parent & Family Orientation (PFO)

Parents & Family Orientation

Your student has decided to attend the University of North Georgia and join the Nighthawk family, which means that you are a member of our family too.

Family members and guests of incoming students play an important role in their student's transition to UNG. We recognize the support you need as well, so we have designed a program to meet your specific needs and concerns.

You have access to a self-paced online Parent and Family Orientation that gives you the opportunity to learn about resources available on campus and discover ways to help your student succeed in and out of the classroom.

In addition, parents and guests of Freshmen and Transfer students will be invited to join certain parts of the live Zoom orientation.  You will not receive a separate Zoom link, so please plan to be with your student when they log in for their virtual session.

Orientation Pricing

Payment is expected at the time of reservation, but extensions can be granted. Requests for alternate payment arrangements should be submitted to the orientation office at the time of making your reservation by completing the Request for Alternate Payment Option form.

How to Pay

By Credit Card or Web Check

Payments may be made via the student's Banner account using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or a web check.

By Cash or Check

Payments can also be made via cash or check to any UNG Business Office. (There is not currently a Business Office in Blue Ridge.) 

By Mail

You may mail a personal check to the UNG Business Office at 82 College Circle, Dahlonega, GA, 30597. (Please be sure to note your student id number, 900xxxxxx, in the memo field.)

Payment Extension?

Payment is expected at the time of reservation, but extensions can be granted.

Requests for alternate payment arrangements should be submitted to the NEST office at the time of making your reservation by completing the Request for Payment Extension Form.

Cancellations & Refunds

NSO & TSO Sessions

Reservations for New Freshmen Orientations (NSO) and Transfer Student Orientations (TSO) are not transferable to in-person or live virtual orientation sessions for future terms.

The dates for orientation sessions are published well in advance, so please reserve a spot in the first available session that works for your schedule and make the necessary accommodations to attend.

Changing Your Admission Term

  • If you decide to change your admission to a future semester after you make an orientation reservation, you must complete the Modification/Cancellation/Exemption Request for Spring 2021.
    • If it is before the cancellation deadline and you have already paid, you will receive a refund.
    • The Business Office may take as long as a month or more to issue refunds. 
  • You will need to make a new orientation reservation when the reservation system opens for the new term you plan on starting in.
  • You will also need to contact Undergraduate Admissions to change your admission term.

No Longer Enrolling at UNG?

If an Emergency Arises

If you are unable to attend the live virtual orientation for NSO or TSO, or complete the online orientation course for OO or RSO because of an emergency, you must fill out the Modification/Cancellation/Exemption Request for Spring 2021.

You will receive additional instructions for meeting your orientation requirements based on your emergency situation.
