Dahlonega Welcome Letter

Dear Nighthawks,
We hope your summer is going great and that you're looking forward to orientation! Being a college student comes with an increase in personal responsibility. In this email we have certain tasks you need to complete prior to your arrival for New Student Orientation. Please read this list carefully and follow all directions. If you have any questions let me know.

  1. Advance Schedule Form – If you have not already done so please log into your banner account and go to the student menu and complete the "Advance Scheduling for Entering Freshmen". This form is only available to regularly admitted fall starters. If you are a summer starter or dual-enrolled student this form does not apply to you and please disregard this step. If you are not sure whether or not you have completed the form already, just click on the link again. If it let’s you into the form, do it!
  2. Consent Form – Please print out and complete the attached consent form. You will not be able to participate in orientation if you do not present this completed form at check-in. Be sure to pack this form separately from your luggage. You will need this form and a photo ID when you check in.
  3. Allergy and Dietary Restriction Form – If you have any kind of dietary restriction or allergy please complete this form. (If you do not have any allergies you can skip this step.)
  4. Freshmen Survey – Please take a few minutes to complete the survey at this link. You will need your student ID # when you log in. We like to turn this into a competition and see which orientation session gets the most surveys completed! Will your group win?
  5. Parent & Family OrientationParent & Family Orientation runs separately, but concurrently to New Student Orientation. To view whether or not your parents and guests are registered for orientation please go back to the Orientation Registration link. When you click on it you will see a receipt for your reservation listing you and your guests. If you have parents and guests registered for the Parent & Family Orientation please encourage them to watch their email for information from us. If you need to add guests, please reply to this email with your SID 900#, your guest’s first and last name, and their preferred email address. Payment information for guests is embedded in the orientation registration receipt. We do not provide lodging for guests.
  6. eCore Quiz – All students should complete the introductory quiz required to take an online course through eCore. We encourage all students to go ahead and complete this quiz and it will be valid your entire time at UNG (even if you don't want to take an online course this fall). You cannot register for an eCore course without first completing this quiz.
  7. Parking Pass – Register your vehicle online so that you can receive your parking pass at orientation. You will need to know your tag number. The log in information is the same as when you log into your email and banner account. If your login information does not work please call the Parking Services office: 706-864-1697. The Parking Permit and Citations link is on the student tab of your banner account.
  8. Packing List – New Student Orientation is an overnight adventure! You are required to participate in the entire program. Students are required to stay overnight in North Georgia Suites. DO NOT ask to leave early or to stay off campus! View the packing list.
  9. Check-in – New Student Orientation check-in is at 8:00 AM on Day 1 of your orientation date at North Georgia Suites. The Suites are located on Sunset Drive. We ask that you enter Sunset Drive from West Main Street. Please look for the "Orientation" signs with the blue arrows and Orientation Leaders! We will finish on Day 2 by 4:30 PM. If you cannot attend the entire time, please switch to a later session.
  10. Online Pre-Orientation Modules – Please complete the online pre-orientation modules prior to orientation. We estimate it will take approximately an hour to two hours to complete the modules.
  11. BONUS - Community Service Project - One of the great things about UNG is our partnership with the local community. Throughout the year we do several service projects to help those in need. This year we are helping to collect Backpacks and school supplies for Lumpkin County Schools. We will be collecting these items at Check-In. The needed school supplies include: pencils, notebooks, binders, bookbags, kindergarten mats, USB Drives, etc.

Catch the Nighthawk spirit and help us support our local youth! #HAWKEM!

We know that this is a long list. But, if you get all of this done in advance everything will go much smoother. We'll see you soon!
