Oconee Campus: In-Person Orientation

Before You Begin

In-person orientation is only required for freshmen and transfer students. All readmits students are required to complete online orientation course offered through D2L prior to starting classes. Readmit students will register for this course through the orientation reservation system.

Student Orientation

The cost for half-day student orientation sessions on the Oconee Campus is $40 (includes refreshments). Students are highly encouraged to bring one parent or family member with them to orientation for an additional $25. Prices effective through December 31, 2019 and are subject to change without prior notice.

Please note there is a separate Parent and Family Orientation program. Students and guests will not be together the whole time.

To Register: 

  1. Login to the Student Banner system. Go to the Student tab and click on the Orientation Reservation form link. Complete the required reading, watch the videos, and if required, provide the academic interest information.
  2. Choose your orientation date. When reserving your seat for orientation, you will only see sessions you are eligible to attend and those that still have seats remaining. We strongly encourage you to reserve a seat in the first session available that works for your schedule. Please be sure to mark your calendar for the session you sign-up to attend and do not double-book yourself on orientation day. You are required to participate in the full session, and absolutely no early class schedule adjustments will be permitted on the day of the program.
  3. You will receive an automated email to confirm your reservation. Please note that payment is requested at the time of reservation. However, payment extensions for student orientation reservations will be granted if needed. You may pay via Banner with a credit or debit card, but other acceptable methods of payment are listed on the Business Office webpage.
  4. Your confirmation email will contain instructions on how to reserve a seat for your parent or family members for Parent and Family Orientation (PFO). This program happens on the same day and time as your orientation, but parents and family members must be signed up separately and will be participating in their own program, while your orientation is in progress. You are encouraged to reserve their seat at PFO when you reserve your own seat for orientation, but can also wait if needed.
  5. If you need to change your orientation date, you must make the change prior to the cancellation date of your current reservation. You can make an orientation reservation change by logging back into your student banner account, going to the Orientation Reservation form on the student tab, and selecting the view orientation details option. Once viewing your reservation details, scroll to the bottom of the page to click the modify reservation button. This will lead you through the steps to update your reservation. Please note you can only modify your reservation one time.

Paying for Orientation

The orientation fee will automatically be added to your student invoice once you reserve a space in an orientation session.

Online Payment: You may pay online with a credit card or web check (powered by TouchNet), or you may mail a check to the business office in Dahlonega. For questions regarding the student orientation fee payment process please contact the Business Office.

Payment by Check: Checks must be received within 10 days of scheduling your session. Please note your Student ID and the word “orientation” in the memo section at the bottom and mail to: University of North Georgia, Attn: Business Office, 82 College Circle, Dahlonega, GA 30597. Please Note: A separate check must be mailed for the Student Orientation fee and the Parent and Family Orientation fee.

Parents & Family Orientation

Parent & Family Orientation sessions will: 

  • Introduce you to important university policies and procedures;
  • Increase your understanding of how to connect your student to the university resources that are available; and  
  • Provide you with tips for helping your student through this time of intellectual and developmental growth.
  • Please note the Parent and Family Orientation session is a separate track from the student session. Parents/guests will not be with their students the whole time.

The fee for Parent and Family Orientation on the Oconee Campus is $25 per guest. The Oconee Campus limits the number of guests to one per student due to space limitations.

The Parent and Family Orientation fee is non-refundable. Please secure your student's orientation reservation prior to reserving a space in PFO.

What to Bring

  • Photo ID
  • Any outstanding official transcripts
  • Any outstanding immunization records
  • Any outstanding financial aid documents, such as those needed for verification
  • Time! Please plan to stay for the entire session.

Do You Need an Accommodation?

If you require an accessibility accommodation for Orientation (such as closed captioning, a sign language interpreter, or orientation materials in another format), please contact Oconee Orientation Accessibility Accommodations  to make arrangements no later than one week prior to your orientation session. To receive accommodations as an enrolled student contact the Student Disability Services office on your home campus.
