Overview

Susann M. Doyle–Portillo earned her Ph.D. in Social Cognition in 1994 from the University of Oklahoma. Prior to her doctoral program, Susann earned bachelor’s degrees in engineering and psychology. This exposure to both the physical sciences and the social sciences helped to ground her firmly in the experimental tradition of psychology. She has published research articles in Social Cognition and Contemporary Social Psychology, but the main focus of her career has and will always be teaching. In 2006, Susann and co-author Ellen Pastorino published the first edition of their psychology textbook entitled, What is Psychology? This text, now in its third edition, is used by college students around the world. In addition to teaching, Susann is a strong believer in undergraduate research. She is currently conducting research with students in the areas of trolling/griefing, computer gaming, self-concept, personality, and religiosity. She is hoping to bring even more undergraduate research projects online in the near future. Her areas of research interest include the self-concept, perception of reality, and the relationship between the self and use of online media and technology.
