Degree Requirements for the BS in Sociology

The Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology is available on the Dahlonega campus of the University of North Georgia.

The Bachelor’s degree requires completion of Areas A-E of the Core Curriculum and Area F as described below. Successful completion or exemption of READ 0099 is required before beginning any Sociology courses. A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for successful completion of the Bachelor’s Degree.

Area F Requirements for Sociology (18 hours):
3 hours SOCI 1101  Introduction to Sociology
3 hours SOCI 2400 Social Theory (Prerequisite to SOCI 4100 Advanced Social Theory)
6 hours choose two courses from the following list:

Social Problems
Introduction to Social Science Research Methods
Introduction to Marriage & Family
Constructions of Difference
Introduction to Social Work
6 hours  Option A: for students who did not take MATH 2400 in Area D of the Core Curriculum
MATH 2400  Elementary Statistics (if not taken in Area D of the Core Curriculum)

and one 1000 or 2000 level elective from the following disciplines: Anthropology, Social Work, Economics, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology

Option B: for students who took MATH 2400 in Area D of the Core Curriculum

any two 1000 or 2000 level course from the following disciplines: Anthropology, Social Work, Economics, Geography, History, Linguistics, Political Science, Psychology or Sociology
