Barbara Arnold came to the University’s Counseling Center in October of 2010. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Appalachian State University, and The University of Georgia respectively. Barbara has over 13 years of experience working in a variety of settings with adults, adolescents, children, and families. Embracing the concept of the body-mind being inextricably connected through our thoughts, feelings, energy, physiology and experiences, Barbara uses techniques that honor that body-mind wholeness. Additionally, the Adaptive Information Processing Model lays a foundation for her theoretical approach. Barbara works with a wide variety of issues and concerns ranging from anxiety, to depression, to relationship or parenting issues. Barbara specializes in working with trauma, and has received training in several trauma specific techniques (including EMDR, Brainspotting, and Holographic Memory Resolution®) that allow her clients to gently recognize and reprocess the experiences that often shape their beliefs about themselves and the reaction patterns in their behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. She incorporates several techniques into her work as needed such as mindfulness, thought work, voice dialoguing and symptom dialoguing. Her intention when working with others is to give personal, kind, compassionate attention to each individual, so they can work on their personal healing in a safe space. Barbara is currently licensed with the state of Georgia’s Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists.
