Undergraduate Research

Experience with undergraduate research is a rare opportunity for high school students and is a unique feature that sets Summer Honors apart from most other academic experiences available in the region. You will gain insights about how to get involved in research at any college you attend and some of the opportunities that exist.

If you are like the vast majority of our participants, you are already planning and prepared for college. Our general academic coursework will challenge you with freshman and sophomore level college coursework and sessions from across the academic disciplines, but our research focus is an added-value feature that will assist you in maximizing the benefits of your undergraduate education.

Summer Honors
Undergraduate Research and Leadership

Leadership

Summer Honors remains the only camp in the region that offers both research-focused, collegiate academics along with leadership training. Participants identify their primary leadership styles and practice the art of leadership in our adventure-learning leadership curriculum. The Summer Honors Leadership Pages offer details about this vital and engaging part of your camp experience.

College Writing

Have you ever wondered if your writing skills are already at a college level? Our College Writing program offers instruction in writing collegiate essays. Two essays are graded by college faculty as though the students are enrolled in an Honors Composition 101 course in college. Perhaps you'll earn A's and find out you are ready for the challenge. Perhaps you will earn B's or C's. If so, our College Writing instructors will give detailed feedback on how you can improve and prepare yourself for the next step in your education.

The essay topics include leadership themes from the novel Ender's Game and leadership experiences at Summer Honors. Leaders communicate effectively. The College Writing program provides excellent synergy between the Summer Honors academic experience and our adventure-learning leadership program.
