English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement

The ESOL program at the University of North Georgia (UNG) is offered as a graduate level or Professional Learning Units (PLU) option.

The next ESOL endorsement cohort will begin June 2018. Applications will be available beginning September 1.

Graduate Admission Procedures for Non-Degree Students

Application materials may be obtained from the UNG Graduate Admissions page.

Applicants pay a $40 one-time, non-refundable application fee.

Summer 2018 Admission – Applications will be available Sept 1.  

Financial Aid & Payment Information

Financial aid is not available for endorsement programs.

Tuition for graduate credit can be paid online to the UNG Business Office.

Payment for PLU credit --- Payment ($550 per course) must be made in full by deadline.  Please make check payable to: Pioneer RESA, and write 'ESOL Endorsement UNG' on the MEMO line.  Mail check to: Attn: Dana Turner, College of Education, University of North Georgia, 82 College Cir, Dahlonega, GA 30597.

All ESOL Endorsement courses require a subscription to LiveText. If you do not already have a subscription, you may purchase one online at LiveText ('Standard Edition').   However, if you have a LiveText subscription, you may use it.  But you must contact LiveText (support@livetext.com) and ask them to 'add the University of North Georgia domain to your account'.

TSLE 6002: Applied Linguistics in ESOL (online)

TSLE 6003: Materials & Methods in ESOL (online)

*Note: Students take one course per term. Courses may not be taken out of sequence; enrollment in the next course is contingent upon successful completion of the previous one(s).

  • Available to current or future classroom teachers with Georgia teaching certification seeking ESOL endorsement.
  • ESOL Endorsement begins Summer term.
  • Courses are offered online over 4 consecutive terms. (Students may repeat courses if needed).
  • One course is taken each term.
  • Students in the program must purchase LiveText online ('Standard Edition' at www.livetext.com)  to be able to complete the required assignments and assessments in the program.
  • Some courses require practicum hours or classroom assessment of English Language Learners; applicants who are current classroom teachers or substitute teachers may consider on the job hours as fulfilling these requirements. Applicants who are not in the classroom are responsible for securing permission from a local school to complete course practicum hours or assessments or can contact the Center for Language Education to work with students in the Intensive English Program.
  • Courses may be applied towards PLU credit.
  • Courses may be applied for graduate credit.  Graduate students may take the courses as non-degree students. Graduate credit may later be applied toward a Master of Education Degree. Contact Graduate Admissions for additional information.
