Dr. Lisa Thomas joined the University of North Georgia in June 2020, as the Title IX Coordinator. Prior to this role, Dr. Thomas served as an Equal Opportunity Specialist conducting investigations into all issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct for faculty, staff, and students at the University of Northern Iowa. Dr. Thomas has completed all required Title IX training conducted through the University System of Georgia. In addition, Dr. Thomas holds certification as a Civil Rights Investigator by the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA). Dr. Thomas attends a variety of training opportunities throughout the year to keep abreast of best practices and changes within the field.

  • As Title IX Coordinator, Dr. Thomas holds the following responsibilities:
    Collaborates with other departments to address campus safety concerns
  • Promotes the creation of policies, procedures and notifications designed to ensure university compliance with Title IX
  • Oversees implementation of compliance procedures, including investigation and disposition of complaints
  • Answers questions and provides guidance about Title IX compliance and the university’s related policies and procedures
  • Acts as liaison to the state and federal agencies that enforce Title IX
  • Helps ensure the campus community and university employees with Title IX compliance responsibilities are adequately trained and educated
  • Monitors all other aspects of the university’s Title IX compliance

Dr. Thomas resides in Cumming, GA with her partner, Armani, two children, Valencia and London, their miniature Australian Shepard, Ender, and their niece, Tiffany and her Chorkie, Peanut. During her free time, Dr. Thomas enjoys spending time with her family and reading.
