Residential Student Return Checklist

Students living in residence halls are asked to follow these guidelines.

Prior to Coming to Campus

Daily Self-Screening

Check your temperature and COVID-19 related symptoms before returning to campus and before coming to campus each day.

If you have any of these symptoms, DO NOT come to campus.

Employees or students who have tested positive or who have symptoms of COVID-19 should seek medical care, notify their supervisor (in the case of employees), stay home, and complete the UNG COVID-19 Self-reporting Form. Reports for students are routed to the Dean of Students and reports for employees are routed to Human Resources.

Student Health Services on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses will offer COVID-19 testing in-house  to UNG students when certain criteria are met. Learn about COVID-19 testing for students at UNG.

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus:

  • Fever over 100.4°F or 38°C (without having taken any fever-reducing medications)
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • Cough
  • Muscle aches
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chills
  • New or unusual headache
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite
  • Review latest symptoms from CDC

If the answer is “yes” to one or more of the following questions, you should stay home.

  • Are you experiencing any of the COVID-19 related symptoms noted above?
  • Are you living with or caring for an individual who is suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19?
  • Have you been in direct or close contact with anyone known or suspected to have COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19 since your last screening?
  • Have you been asked to self-isolate or quarantine by a medical professional or a local public health official

  • Contact the instructor for each of your classes in advance so you know what to expect. Social-distancing requirements could mean changes such as hybrid online/in-person classes, flexible schedules or different seating arrangements.
  • Let your instructors know in advance if you are in a vulnerable population or live with someone who is so that you can work out necessary accommodations.
  • Familiarize yourself with eLearning@UNG, also known as D2L, and resources on how to use it in case classes shift to remote instruction later in the semester due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Residence Halls/Move-In

For residential students in Dahlonega, move-in dates and times are staggered.

  • Check your move-in email for a specific date and time as well as move-in instructions.
  • Both the move-in schedule and procedures may vary from previous years due to COVID-19.
  • Bring hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes or spray for use in your room.
  • Bring reusable cloth masks and a thermometer.

In the Residence Hall

  • Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces such as door handles, light switches and countertops in the room or suite.
  • Consider how you can limit sharing of food spaces and supplies such as coffee makers and coffee condiments, microwaves and refrigerators.
  • Use totes for personal items to prohibit them from touching bathroom countertops and avoid putting toothbrushes directly on bathroom counter.
  • Remember that social distancing will change the amount of people able to eat in dining areas or gather in other common areas.

covid-19 Health and Safety Items

  • Resuable cloth masks
  • Thermometer
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Sanitizing spray or wipes
