Johanna Norry teaches textiles and weaving, as well as two-dimensional design and color, at the UNG Dahlonega campus. Employing and subverting traditional techniques of weaving, handknitting, coiling, embroidery and stitching, as well as digital design, her own artistic process is one of research as art/art as research.
In 2018, she received her M.F.A. in Fabric Design at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia, her B.F.A. in Textiles from Georgia State University in 2015, and her B.A. in Anthropology and Writing from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. Her work has been featured in a number of juried exhibitions and group shows nationally and in Canada, as well as a solo show at The Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta. Before joining the faculty at UNG, she taught in the Textile program at Kennesaw State University, and in 2019, she had a month-long artist residency at the Icelandic Textile Center in Blönduos, Iceland.
