Accessible Multimedia Guidelines

Before Production/Creation

Include accessibility during the creation of your multimedia project. If you are purchasing video creation services, check with IT and Purchasing on meeting ADA compliance.

For videos: If you need help with technical specs, help with YouTube, or overall guidance on branding, email socialmedia@ung.edu

The webteam reserves the right to not embed videos onto our ung.edu site that do not meet minimum quality standards, follow best practices, meet branding guidelines, or meet accessibility standards.

Minimum Standards for Video

  • Any person in the video needs to have signed a model release form (PDF)
  • Should be horizontally oriented
  • No flashing sequences
  • No autoplay
  • Should be high-resolution
  • Should have crisp and clear audio
  • Closed captions should not overlap any graphics that appear in the video
  • Must be uploaded to YouTube
  • Must have a proofread transcript and closed captions enabled

How to Have Multimedia Added to Your Site

To have your multimedia embedded on our www.ung.edu website, please follow these guidelines.

For Video with Audio and Visuals

  • Upload the video to YouTube
  • Enable closed captions
  • YouTube can auto-generate a transcript
    • Edit the transcript and save it as a Word document

  • Create a visual transcript that describes what is going on in the video
    • Save it as a Word document
  • If there are any words or overlays on the video, include that text in the transcript
  • Send the YouTube link and the transcript via ServiceNow ticket

For Audio Files

  • Provide a transcript in a Word document
  • Save audio as an MP3 file
  • Add audio files to U:Drive>Shared>Workspace>Webteam
  • Let us know where the file is and attach the transcript to a ServiceNow ticket

For Complex Graphics, such as Infographics

  • Provide a text version in a Word document of all of the information conveyed in the graphic
  • Send a high-quality file of your graphic and the document with the text version via ServiceNow ticket
