    Gabriella Walden

Gabriella Walden is a University of North Georgia (UNG) Resident Life coordinator, a role she uses to lead 12 resident assistants (RAs).

As a servant leader the 27-year-old Walden values the importance of going above and beyond, especially for the RAs, who are encouraged to provide input regarding decisions and partake in staff bonding activities.

Walden, a former RA, earned a degree in art marketing from UNG and also learned about the importance of encouraging others.

"UNG can feel like home if you start small and get to know the people around you," Walden said. "Get to know your RA because they can provide you with so much help and resources. Put yourself out there and find things that interest you."

Walden earned a Master of Public administration (MPA) in May 2022. The influence of her peers in the "community-oriented department" where they work made her decide to pursue an MPA. The degree allows her a variety of career options, Walden said.

"A lot of people in the department earned an MPA, and the diversity it offers really appealed to me. It allows for more opportunities in the future," the Conyers, Georgia, native said.

Walden said it is the university and the people in it, like Dr. James Conneely, vice president of Student Affairs, and Dr. John Delaney, dean of students on the Dahlonega Campus, who inspire her.

She hopes to make connections with and advocate for students whose efforts influence her positivity.

"I try to have a positive outlook in anything I do. There's something special about being able to encourage others and trying to point out the positives in others," Walden said. "Remember to celebrate accomplishments, no matter how small, especially as a team. It's progress that goes a long way toward overall goals."
