University of North Georgia Honors Program

The University of North Georgia Honors Program provides talented and motivated students the opportunity to take enriched versions of certain courses. Honors classes offer a more in-depth study of the course topic and emphasize discussion, analysis, teamwork, independent learning, and an appreciation of the interrelatedness of knowledge, more than lecture, memorization, and quiz taking. Class size is usually limited to 12-18 students, allowing them to develop intellectually and creatively in a supportive environment. The program fosters maximum intellectual growth and the development of the whole person, thus providing a strong foundation for excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and professional pursuits.

Participation in the program does not add or change any requirements for graduation; however, involvement in Honors activities outside the classroom and service to the institution or local community are components of graduating with an Honors designation.

Advisement

Students entering the program will be advised by the Honors Director on their campus in consultation with faculty from the student’s major discipline. Students who are active in the Honors program can register early for classes the following semester by contacting Dr. Steve Smith (Director at Dahlonega), Dr. Anastasia Turner (Assistant Director at Gainesville), or Dr. Matthew Horton (Assistant Director at Oconee).
