10 guidelines for UNG social media admins
Hi, social media admin!
Here are 10 guidelines
that will make sharing the stories of
your department on social media
amazingly successful for you – and UNG!
#1 Know the policy
Are you familiar with UNG's
Social Media Policy? Know
the rules before you start posting.
Find it in the Policy Database and on
ung.edu/social-media.
#2 Be official
Have you registered your unit's
social media site(s) with UNG's
Office of University Relations?
It's the only way to get official logos
and a directory listing.
#3 Be responsible
Do not post sensitive, confidential or
proprietary info. Follow UNG and USG policies
on privacy and confidentiality.
#4 Be accurate
Content must be accurate and
consistent. If you make an error, correct
it quickly and visibly.
#5 Be active
Check on your site at least a few minutes
each day, and post several times a week –
daily for some platforms.
#6 Be original
Know and comply with copyright and
fair use laws. Don't use photos not
taken by you or UNG.
# 7 Be a cheerleader
Posts (and likes) should relate to UNG and
our institutional mission. Link back to the
website, www.ung.edu, when possible.
#8 Be responsive
Engage with your followers and respond
to comments. Know how to handle
negative comments or "trolls."
# 9 Be smart
Think before you post. You are representing
UNG, so avoid posts (or likes) that are political,
endorse a business or product, or could
harm UNG's reputation.
#10 Be careful
Keep any personal social media accounts
separate from UNG accounts and pay
attention to which one you're posting on.
Keep up the awesome work!
