David Hair

Muy, bien, or -ísimo? A brief history of intensification from Latin to Spanish.

David Alan Hair is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of North Georgia. He recently defended his doctoral dissertation in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia (Athens). David's research focuses on how languages develop over time (diachronic), analyzing features such as Spanish intensifiers muy/bien/-ísimo 'very'. He enjoys attempting to answer the (socio)linguistic question of why we alter our speech patterns over time and across regions.

Maverick Zhang

Embodiment in ESL Teacher Education: A Mediated Approach.

Brief bio for website:  Maverick Y. Zhang is a Ph.D. candidate, teacher, and activist at The University of Georgia. Maverick holds a master’s degree in Sociolinguistics & TESOL from City University of Hong Kong. Their research interests include (but are not limited to) discourse studies, embodiment, posthumanism, critical multicultural-lingual education, teacher education, critical literacy, and functional linguistics. Recent publications/projects.
