Geospatial Intelligence Certificate

Threats to human security come in many forms – natural disasters, humanitarian crises, environmental risks, public health issues, military operations, terrorist attacks, genocide, political violence, and resource accessibility, among others. This certificate leverages geospatial science and technology with intelligence tools to develop geospatial intelligence skills that assist in informing decision-making in disaster response, humanitarian relief efforts, and national security.

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Certificate Program is well suited for students who aspire to a career in geospatial intelligence at Federal and State agencies or within the private sector.

USGIF accreditation seal

Accredited by the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF)

The accreditation by the USGIF benefits students, academia, industry, government, and the GEOINT Community at large, by ensuring current hiring needs are reflected in cross-disciplinary classroom coursework. A USGIF GEOINT credential ensures hiring organizations that the holder has the needed foundational knowledge and technical skills as well as critical thinking, reporting and synthesis abilities to successfully contribute to the GEOINT Community.

USGIF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational foundation committed to promoting the geospatial intelligence tradecraft and developing a strong GEOINT community with government, industry, academia, professional organizations, and individuals who develop and apply geospatial intelligence to address national security concerns. USGIF has made education a top priority, exemplified by its academic, scholarship, and certificate programs, and K-12 educational outreach. The Foundation’s focus is to bring together the many disciplines involved in the geospatial intelligence sector to exchange ideas, share best practices and promote the education and importance of a national geospatial intelligence agenda.

The Lewis F. Rogers Institute for Environmental and Spatial Analysis (IESA) is dedicated to preparing learners for work in GEOINT via excellence in teaching, research, and professional activities. The program delivers a course of study consistent with the USGIF accreditation standards and will award students with official credentials signifying their completion of the program. USGIF’s accreditation of collegiate Geospatial Intelligence certificate and degree programs awards IESA the ability to offer students accredited GEOINT certificates accompanying a UNG undergraduate degree.
