Beginning May 2022, the University of North Georgia (UNG) shifted covid-19 protocols to treating covid-19 as we do other infectious diseases and continue to transition our response as outlined below. We will remain attentive to national and local covid-19 trends and will revise our approach as needed.
We encourage everyone in the UNG community to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) recommendations, vaccinate, and wear a mask based on preference and assessment of personal risk.
Thank you for doing your part to keep Nighthawks together.
covid-19 vaccines and boosters offer safe, effective protection, and we urge all students, faculty, staff and visitors to consult with their healthcare providers about getting vaccinated and/or boosted. Getting vaccinated is easy and free.
Student Health will continue to offer vaccine and booster opportunities utilizing Pfizer vaccines. A list of vaccine clinics can be found on the Student Health Center website.
Due to decreased demand and the wide availability of at-home test options, we have discontinued on-campus asymptomatic testing. Symptomatic testing in Student Health Services on both the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses remains available for students who have paid the Student Health fee and who have been evaluated by a campus health services medical provider. Students who desire an evaluation by a campus medical provider can schedule an appointment via their online health portal.
Students and employees should follow Georgia Department of Public Health guidance in the case of a positive test or an exposure. The Department of Public Health, not the university, will conduct contact tracing as needed on positive cases or direct or indirect exposures.
Remember, if you are experiencing covid symptoms or other contagious illness, please do not come to campus.
We have removed the reporting form and weekly case updates from the university’s website. The Georgia Department of Public Health’s epidemiology team will monitor positive covid cases and will respond if an outbreak is beginning to occur.
UNG’s Emergency Preparedness will distribute PPE to university departments upon request at the beginning of each term and during periods of high transmission.
