Career Services Tips to Navigate Changing Job Market Transcript

Hello I'm Diane Farrell, Director of Career Services.
I know you're busy dealing with the rapid changes that have happened over the past few weeks
and making many unexpected adjustments.
We are too.
But as you adjust to these changes, you're actually growing your skill.
You're demonstrating adaptability,
problem-solving,
and the ability to overcome challenges.
These are all skills employers want.
Research shows that the college degree
can be even more valuable during tough times.
So how can you be ready for a more
challenging search than we thought this might be?
We have career specialists
ready to share their expertise with you and provide support and we have
resources you can use right from home.
Our goal is to help you move forward toward your desired goals.
We're doing some things a little bit differently now,
but in a way these differences allow us to better prepare you for the interviews
and jobs of tomorrow.
As you know, employers have been growing the use of technology in the hiring process.
So here are four ways you can keep working toward your goals.

  1. Meet with a career specialist through a virtual meeting, phone call, or email exchange.
  1. Join one of our three groups on D2L.

We have the Career Explorers League,
The Career Construction Zone
and The Graduate School Planning Group.
And number three, use Handshake to find career events,
employers, internships and jobs.
On April 2nd, Handshake had well over 5,000 jobs and internships open.
And finally, visit ung.edu/careers to schedule an appointment
and to find even more career information including sample resumes.
We look forward to when we can see you again in person but in the meantime
remember we're in this together and Career Services is here ready to
help you achieve your dreams.
